Intricate Ribbon

Sixth Plate Daguerreotype | Such a kind, open country face; it might be easily overlooked were it not for the lovely white silk ribbon wrapped around her neck, with the decoration of roses and vines. Precise rose-pink tinting is applied to the flowers; a cheerful flush to the lady's face echoes the roses in the ribbon. It is a simple formula, carefully rendered, that works awfully well.

Condition: Very fine. A very slight amount of normal margin tarnish. New archival seals; a resilvered plate. In a half case.

Key points: Bold bust portrait of a simple lady, her femininity accented by a tinted white neck ribbon. American, circa 1850; sixth plate daguerreotype measuring 3 1/4 inches x 2 3/4 inches (8.2 cm x 7.0 cm). Image #8D6-021; $150.
