1860s Buggy

Sixth Plate Tintype | A handsome outdoor scene, probably taken to commemorate the purchase of this shiny four-wheeler. While the owner rests his hand on his pride-and-joy, a young groom holds horse steady in the background — making for a well-thought-out composition. The style of the clothing and the size of the metal plate, 2 3/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches (true sixth plate width), indicate this to have been taken in the 1860s, in the first decade of tintype-making. Some scratches and two light bends. Rich tonality. Image #T-08; price on request.
